A handsome antique walnut open bookcase of substantial proportions, with a warm, rich colour and attractive figuring to the timber.

The upper section features three adjustable shelves enclosed by moulded uprights with repeated recessed panel detailing, beneath a substantial projecting moulded cornice. The boarded back gives the bookcase a pleasing traditional appearance and the adjustable shelves allow for books or objects of varying heights. The lower section is fitted with two wide drawers retaining attractive brass drop handles and escutcheons, flanked by further architectural moulded detail and raised on a moulded plinth base. A particularly well-proportioned and useful bookcase with plenty of storage and an attractive architectural profile.

In good antique condition with expected age-related wear throughout. Various surface marks, scratches, knocks and areas of wear consistent with age and use, particularly to the shelves, lower surface and drawer fronts. Some variation in colour and finish to the timber. The boarded back also shows expected marks and wear. The adjustable shelves function as intended and the drawers run well. Structurally solid and sound. Overall a very attractive piece with a lovely warm colour and character.
