Antique 18th Century Oak Welsh Dresser Base

A handsome Welsh oak dresser base dating from the 18th century, of narrow proportions that make it well suited for use as a hall or console table. The dresser base features a single-plank top with beaded detail along the back edge, above an arrangement of three drawers and a shaped apron with elegant scrolling detail. It is raised on turned supports united by a low potboard base. The oak has developed a deep, rich colour over time, with pleasing grain and character throughout. A particularly attractive and practical country piece with excellent proportions.

In excellent antique condition throughout, with signs of age and use commensurate with its period. There is surface wear in places, including age-related marks, knocks, and scratches across the piece. There is historic wear and loss to the potboard, particularly at the back right-hand corner; however, this does not detract from the overall appeal. There is evidence of historic woodworm, as expected for a piece of this age. This has long gone and the item been treated as a precaution. There is a small block repair to the top, which does not affect its overall appearance. The drawers run smoothly, and the dresser base is structurally solid and sturdy throughout. Overall, it is a very decorative and practical example with a lovely colour and patina.
