Antique 18th Century Oak Mule Chest

An exceptional early 18th-century oak mule chest, dated and inscribed PC 1723, retaining strong colour, detailing, and presence. The chest is constructed in the traditional manner, with a hinged top opening to reveal a generous interior with a later candle box to the left side. Below are two drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles.

The oak has matured to a deep, warm tone with a wonderful patina throughout. The front features three fielded panels, each centred with decorative inlaid motifs. The lid is traditionally hinged and surmounted by a moulded cornice, and the chest is raised on turned bun feet. Overall, a lovely example.

In very good antique condition. It displays expected surface wear throughout, including marks and scratches. Age related split to the plank top but structurally solid and sound. Brass handles are historic replacements, but in keeping with the piece. Structurally solid and sound and presenting well. A lovely example.
